Getting into the psychiatric institution and trying to understand patients’ lives. It is not easy especially when the psychiatric hospital is in Togo and that cross-cultural issues between the patients and the photographer are permanent.
Karl Blanchet tried to capture encounters with all those people who live in another environment where the dimension of time is slowed down.
This work carried out during two years has been published by Desclee de Brouwer in a book entitled “Sommeil de pagne”. The writer Franck Pavloff added beautiful texts to the photographs..
