J’ai toujours pensé que, lorsque viendra ce qu’on appelle « La fin du Monde », s’il devait rester une seule ville-témoin de la présence humaine sur cette terre pendant quelques milliers d’années, ce devrait être New York.

D’abord parce que c’est un concentré vivant de l’humanité tout entière, des « espèces » les plus diverses, plus que dans n’importe quelle autre cité.

Ensuite parce que c’est dans cette véritable jungle que sont le plus criantes toutes les extravagances de la race humaine, qu’apparaît le plus la folie humaine et sa démesure.

Enfin parce qu’on se demande comment on va pouvoir inventer un nouveau type de ville sans avoir besoin de carrément changer de planète.

I have always considered that, when it will be time for the end of the World, only New York City should  stay standing as a testimony of the human presence on Earth for a few thousands years.

First because New York concentrates the whole mankind, with all the human “species” represented for better than in any other city in the world.

Second because it is in that authentic jungle that may be observed more than anywhere else human extravagancies and crazyness.

Last because one may wonder how our descendants will be able to invent a new kind of city without having to move to another planet.
